Coonawarra is a 56 km drive from Mt Gambier. This area is known as the Wine region because that is all you will find here. It is famous for the full bodied reds grown in the highly prized terra rossa soil over limestone. The area has given rise to many of the nations finest drops and has a world wide reputation for unique flavour and quality. Coonawarra has won more Jimmy Watson trophies for Australia's best one year old red wine thanany other region22 cellar doors sale outlets are very closely situated and you wont have a shortage of wines to taste. Most of the wines we tried were dry reds so if you dont like a nice dry you may be disappointed
