  • I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would get a chance to get up close and personal to an elephant. Let alone ride one.But with the help of a new friend Raz(aka Banditleader) we did get to experience it.Raz is a volunteer at KUALA GANDAH ELEPHANT SANCTUARY and he invited us to join him there for the day. This is the only one of its kind in Malaysia and the group of people that are involved do so much for the elephants. They are a dedicated team that locate then relocate the elephants to a more suitable area. You get to see a film on how this is done When we were there they had 2 babies and 5 adults. Each Elephant has its own personality and I must admit I fell in love with Abot. She was so cheeky (yes elephants do have personalities :) ) We got to see how their food is prepared each day. we watched as 2 volunteers fed the babies their milk, we watched and laughed as the elephants had there daily bath. Then we got to go for a ride. in the river. I can understand why we were advised to take a second lot of clothing. we got dumped in the river by the elephant :) but it was a great day. This team of dedicated workers do such a great job. You can see how much they care for them but the caring and love they feel for this amazing animal isnt enough .what they desperately need is donations so they can go ahead with the great job they are doing now.

its the Indian folks 'new year'. We call it 'deepavali'. Tomorrow we are back to work so nothing particular this evening. Further more its raining cats & dogs this few days.
