We were fortunate to be in penang during the chinese new year celebrations and we wouldnt have missed that for the world. To feel the excitement in the air was great ....every one got into the new year spirit. We had an amazing driver who knew the right places to take us. We got to see the KEK LOK SI TEMPLE , which is the biggest temple in SE asia.He took us to Batik factories, a butterfly farm and a Jewellry factory (oh if only I had thousands of ringets to spare). He took us to Penang Hill and we went for a ride on the FUNICULAR train on our second last day. When we got to the top of Penang Hill we were in awe of the sight of the town below usbeing on dusk the lights where really pretty . He, our lovely driver Ismael, had booked us in to the restuarant at the top of the hill for a lovely steam boat meal.......what a lovely last meal in Penang. Then after our meal he took us back down to the temple so we could see the lights that were set up for the festivities. He told us the power bill for the month totalled RM80,000 a lot of money. We aquired a taste for TONGKAT ALI... a lovely coffee that we still crave for today back here at home. Our memories of Penang will always stay with us. We saw some magnificant sites and made some new friends. |

balhannah Tue Nov 25, 2008 22:18 UTC Would like to go back to Penang and see more. Easy to drive around? We like doing our own thing. Weren't the Temples fantastic. | SLLiew Tue Nov 21, 2006 14:34 UTC Vicky, Penang is lovely isn't it. Great place to stay and to visit. Think you meant "teh tarik" (not Tongkat Ali - local aphrodisiac, ha ha ha). Added in token amount like mint to tea toattract customers. Durian also has same effect. Cheers, SL | volopolo Sun Oct 15, 2006 16:44 UTC lovely page! Nikos | Azri_Azmi Sun Aug 27, 2006 11:24 UTC Hiya aunt, how's uncle after taking the Tongkat Ali?
