My love

by angelayjose - last update: Jan 17, 2005

streets of downtown
I went to Santa Cruz de la Sierra at the end of 2003. I was there through Christmas and New Year's, and was sad when I had to leave to my humdrum life.
Bolivia is such a beautiful country. I went there to meet my husbands family. They were the most kind and loving people I have ever met. Everyone there is beautiful.
There were so many images to take in. It was the first time I had stepped out of my own world and looked into someone else's. Just watching everyone, seeing the culture, was so much fun.

about me

Well, I am married to a wonderful man. We dont have any children, but we do have a gerbil. Her name is Mousy Poodles.
I am go to school at the local community college. I want to teach english as a second language. I work at an office and I love it, also I am a substitute teacher 2 days a week. I just started doing this, and it is kindof hard but only because I look really young and half of the children dont take me seriously.
My husband is a flight instructor. He just loves planes and everything about them. I love to sew and read. We kickbox togethor 3 times a week. That is fun, a great way to let off steam.
I love the show ER, and have yet to miss an episode of Desperate Housewives. I would love to be on Big Brother, but dont have the courage to apply.
No, I am not obsessed with TV, I just have my fav shows as does anyone else.
I have not traveled to too many places, but i am still young. I hope to be able to travel to many places, I want to see everything!
miriachi's on the strip
The nightlife is incredible. There is always some party to go to. I am used to Tulsa, where the party stops at 130am. However, here the party is only beginning at 130. It goes until about 7am or so. There are so many bars, clubs, even just hanging out on the street, car racing, drinking a beer, and listening to music. When we were there, my husband found some miriachi's, and they played for us.
I have a friend that makes jewelry for a living. She is a widow and is trying to raise her son on a limited income. She is disabled, and because of this is unable to do regular work. however, she is great at jewelry. She wraps crystals and does chain mail and other beautiful creations. I hope that you take the chance to look at the work she has done.

man at the river
One really neat place to go is to the river. I dont know the exact name, but once you get to it there is a sign welcoming you. You drive down a dirt road, and on both sides are little food huts, bars, and stages to dance. You can rent horses and a/v's (4 wheelers), and you can ride these through the jungle. The a/v's are really cheap. about 80 Bolivianos an hour ($10). also, the food is really cheap. Most of the people that own the huts, also live there. They depend upon the people that go to the river.
New Year's Party
New Year's was the best I ever had. If you spend New Year's in Santa Cruz, I highly suggest you go here. We went to a water park to celebrate. It cost $50 per person, but well worth it. There was dinner and breakfast, plus all you can drink. Everyone wore white, it was beautiful. The breakfast was sopa de mani, which is a tradition to eat on New Year's. The toast at midnight was cidra. Cidra is extremely pleasing to the mouth. It is like a sweet champaigne. We left around 6 am, only because we were traveling far that day, but the party kept going well into the afternoon.
