A Dock at the Western Esplanade - Nassau

A Dock at the Western Esplanade

Western Esplanade

This is a local beach that has beautiful waters and a great view overlooking the Paradise Island Lighthouse and the Harbour of Nassau. Come here and bask in the sun to soak in a few rays. There are competing vendors who are ready to give you an umbrella or a drink at competing prices.

Pirates Museum - Nassau

Pirates Museum

Pirates Museum Pirate Museum Review

Fun for the family is available at the Pirates Museum. Fully equipped with your pirate impersonators who come and talk with you in the middle of the streets, it's no wonder this is a local hit. It has its own popular pub and (of course) a gift shop of many cool treasures. Guaranteed a nod or two from your little son who may be into the whole "pirates" thing. Hey, I had fun, and I'm not into pirates! You learn about the history of the pirates in the Bahamas, and it's got some great information and artifacts.

Address: King & George St.

Directions: Walk a block down George St. from Bay St., it's on the right.

Fish Fry - Nassau

Fish Fry

Fish Fry

The place where you can get great Bahamian seafood for relatively cheap rates and shop for some souvenirs, the Fish Fry is a place I highly reccomend. It sits just south of Arawak Cay, and every Sunday they have a Junkanoo festival where you can eat great food and enjoy the local music and traditional Bahamian culture. Very lively at Junkanoo nights, and very fun to be a part of.

Christopher Columbus Statue - Nassau

Christopher Columbus Statue

Christopher Columbus Statue

Since he was the first European to set foot on Bahamian shores in 1792, the New Government House hoisted a statue in his honor to proudly boast in front of the façade of the Capitol. Luciously adorned with flowers from the gardens around it, the pinks and yellows blended beautifully with the summer day.

New Government House - Nassau

New Government House

New Government House Government House Review

Since independence, the government has housed a larger company of people, and needed more room for its own parliament to be able to work. I entered from the eastern side, and the guard allowed me to enter for free to take pictures, but you're only allowed to take pictures of the façade, the gardens and the statue. Good enough for me, so long as it's free...

Gregory's Arch - Nassau

Gregory's Arch

Gregory's Arch

I entered by going west on East Hill Street. Walk on the left hand side until you reach the dead-end of the street. Look right. There is a stairwell that leads you to Peck's Slope where you can walk down and sneak a peak at the archway. Not at all what I was expecting.. it looks more like a bridge than a famous landmark.

Queen Elizabeth Staircase - Nassau

Queen Elizabeth Staircase

Queen Elizabeth Staircase Queen's Staircase Review

Carved out of the Nassau Bedrock, this impressive structure leading to Fort Fincastle orginally had 66 stairs, but now there are only 65. At the top is the water tower and fort, at the bottom is an astounding view of the tiers and some vendors awaiting a good bargain.

With an observation deck at 216 feet above sea level, this tower boats the most outstanding view of New Providence Island. Its location and height offers a domineering view that everyone should encounter. No admission fees are necessary. Who knew that a reservoir would become such a tourist hotspot?!

Cannon aimed at the Cruise Boats

Fort Fincastle Fort & Water Tower Review

Completed in 1793, this fort give you an astounding view of Nassau and Paradise Island. Its purpose was to protect the government house from invasion. Now open to the public, free of admission, you can enter the dungeon and ammo rooms and walk among big cannons.
