Denali National Park

Beautiful year round!

Young sheep
Any time of year is great to visit Denali National Park & Preserve, however you will find more activities in the summer (as well as more mosquitos and tourists!). Be sure to bring plenty of extra film, batteries, and bug dope. Also, the weather is often unpredictable, so dress in layers!

A great and knowledgeable organization to contact before your trip is the Denali Foundation! There are many workshops available to take part in and a great resource to the history and current ongoings in the Park.

Secret campground

This is a hidden camp area (meaning no RVs and such) on the outskirts of Denali. Not too many mosquitos here, either.

A good lesson

It is hard to see in this picture, but for a while we watched a mother sheep teach her little one how to jump from rock to rock OVER the river. After they crossed, they would take the bridge back to the side I was on and then do it again! I will take better pictures this summer (upgrading the camera).

Pros:"Everything about this place is great!"
Cons:"So many people...overcrowding in the peak of the summer!"
In A Nutshell:"Best place in Interior to view wildlife if you have only a few days to travel."

I would love to see this page grow to be as large as the Alaska Range.

Great start on your Denali page. I'll be watching for more. Love the baby dall sheep photo.

The first time I visited Denali Park was in 1975. At that time you could drive your car all the way to Wonder Lake and camp there. No crowds except for mosquitos. Polychrome Pass was spectacular!
