Cocula, the birthplace of all mariarchi music, is a town of 37,692, located 36 miles from Guadalajara, on highway 15, the road to the Pacific coast, which is approx. 160 miles...479 yrs old, beautiful, authentic "old-world" Mexico...absolutely perfect weather year round, highs about 90, lows 48, very low humidity...the people are all warm, friendly, and absolutely love "Gringos", all want you to teach them English, and they teach you Spanish...I have a home here and spend 10-11 months per year here because of the attributes...cost of living is ridiculously low, anyone can live well on less than $ 500 per month...no a/c or heat required, utilities very low...has a travel agency, first class bus service, and you can find all the essentials very conveniently located. First visited Cocula in 2001 and since the first visit have built a home and am content to spend the majority of my time here, not in the US
