Restaurant Name: Cafe Gijon
an old time institution in Madrid since 1888, modernist style, all the great in Spanish literature, politics, and entertainement had passed by it. In my childhood, came with my mother to discussed the world at large in long conversations over a cup of coffee and some omelette tapas. Now take my kids for the flavor of it, some revueltos de camaron, and to hear serious Spanish discussions. For an intimate look at Spanish life and Madrid in specifics, cant missed it, just a coffee sipping and hearing will do, a lot more if partake in the conversations.
Favorite Dish: tapas omelettes, revueltos de camarones (eggs scramble with shrimps), and natas or vanilla puddings, and of course coffeee!!!

well do not know your timing there, but if you just want to have a meal, smoke a cigar and drink a decent one in one shot, then i suggest the Taberna de los Cien Vinos (tavern of the 100 wines so you know) Nuncio, 17 Metro La Latina, Sol or Tirso de Molina El Anciano Rey de los Vinos (the ancient king of wines, again ,,) Bailén, 19 Metro Opera or Sol El Pescador (great seafood, the best fresh from Galicia) Jose Ortega y Gasset ,75 Metro Lista The beforemention Botin, considered by GUinness the oldest restaurant in the world, best for Castilian soup and pork and lamb dishes. Cuchilleros 17 Metro Sol, La Latina or Tirso de Molina Taberna La Bola (for the best cocido madrileño in town) calle Bola, 5 Metro Santo Domingo as for cigars, there is a ban on smoking in restos, bars in Madrid although some might turn the other cheek, still those that are able to separate by a wall or by consensus of the regular clients, can have smoking areas. I do not smoked so cant help on cigars, but I have heard from local friends this one is ok for cigars to buy Cava de Magallanes Calle Magallanes 16 Metro Quevedo line 2 Hope it helps you
Favorite Dish: Taberna de los Cien Vinos (tavern of the 100 wines so you know) El Anciano Rey de los Vinos (the ancient king of wines, again El Pescador (great seafood, the best fresh from Galicia The beforemention Botin, considered by GUinness the oldest restaurant in the world, best for Castilian soup and pork and lamb dishes.
