wonderful castle where you will have bars, and restos under the cavernous alleys of this keeper of the bay of Havana. the taking of this castle often meant the surrender of havana like in 1763 to the British.

for about 100 years it kept Columbus body in Cuban mahogany wood tomb, then it was off to Sevilla with the mahogany wood tomb and all. It has been special for all Cubans ever since the day it was built, even today it a beacon of hope and a time that it was grand. A must see for any visitor to havana.

everyday at 9PM or 21H the canon sound meaning the closing of the harbor of havana , a tradition going back to the Spanish colonial period. name after the king himself Carlos III and built by the French team of engineer M. De Valliére from drawing given by M. Ricaud de Targale. it is the biggest fortress in the Americas. it is now the site of the Festival of books in havana every year.

construction finish in 1767, to guard the city southern flank and it was a big depot for gun powder. still stands a very nice trip which should be a thing to see in havana
