My travels throughout the World

by pedmar - last update: Nov 5, 2009

A World Citizen indeed

avenue de Paris looking at chateau de Versailles
I WILL BE HOME SOON FROM NIGERIA.SOME TIPS,WILL EXPAND LATER WITH SOME PHOTOS::)

I am ,I guess a world traveler, being to 54 countries and lived/citizen of 4, Cuba, Spain ,USA and France; where I now live.I can speak French, Spanish, English, and Portuguese. I love to travel all over Europe with my favorites being France and Spain of course.

This is where i drive by home, my city the palatial splendor of the beauty and power of a Nation, Chateau de Versailles, the power and beauty of France. A must for any visitor claiming to have visited France.
main entrance chateau de Fontainebleau

travels of France at Chateau de Fontainebleau

great travels great history from the great François I passing thru Napoleon I and III, the history of France was also written here. It is the one of the pillars castles to visit to complete your taste of France.

It was ,also, my first visit to a castle in France back in 1990, as it is the region of my wife today ::) Seine et Marne dept 77 ile de France region.
Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte

front entrance grill door Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte

a historic chateau , one of the pillars of 3 for a visit to France. built by Nicolas Fouquet, prime minister under king Louis XIV, on an invitation to this chateau ,the king was jealous of its beauty while he lived in an old fortress then the Louvre, old and ugly. He had the PM imprisonent, by his order, the Captain of the Muskeeteers, D'Artagan, arrested Nicolas Fouquet, sent to jail, the property confiscated by the king. Thereafter, he order the entire crew who built this chateau to do one better for him, the crew included the great gardener Le Notre, then in 1664, the construction of the better chateau , of Versailles began. In what was just swampland and marshes, the beauty that we see today was born. Eventually the chateau de Vaux-le-vicomte was given to the descendants of the original PM ,they still hold the chateau today in association with the government sudsidies that allows the property to be maintained at its best and of course with the support of all its visitors.

Seine et Marne dept 77 Ile de France region, southern part of the department.
Bongos cafe in pleasure island Orlando FL USA

Living like in hollywood, only its Florida!

One of my best recollection is living in Florida, typical weather, nice beaches, beautiful woman, and caliente! This is America at its best under the sunshine state!!

The place is Bongo's Cuban Cafe, at the Disney Pleasure Island complex in Orlando ,Florida USA. Where I spent 18 yrs of my life in and around Florida !!!
replica of Liberty Bell, George Washington park

Liberty Bell in Perth Amboy

a replica of the liberty bell in the George Washington park in Perth Amboy, there is a statue of Gen Washington there too . Across to the left lies the oldest continuos operating city hall in the USA dates from 1789!. at Perth Amboy, former capital of East Jersey in the original 13 colonies of America.
the governor was John Franklin, the brother of Benjamin Franklin.

I lived here, went to elementary and high school, and became a US citizen ::) 1980. Where I spent 13 yrs of my life in New Jersey!!!
lake inside park el Retiro

estanco or lake of parque del buen Retiro

many memories of living and walking and taking those oars or pedals boats as a young man,now only the swan and oars remain, but still is a must for any visitor to Madrid as a must for any resident of the city. The lake or estanque was begun in 1561, by order of King Felipe( Philip) II and later enlarge by king Felipe IV in 1620 First it was royal grounds, but after the turn of the 20C it was open to the public by king Alfonso XIII in 1868. There are several buildings of interest within the park, including the palace of Velazquez and Cristal ,today exhibitions of art is held permanent and temporary. The limits were the Cason del buen retiro ,original housing the great paint by Picasso, Guernica, now both part of the Prado museum. You cannot go to Madrid without stopping by this park, is a must see.

Where I spent 5 yrs of my life in Madrid ,Spain!!!
statue of St Christopher at Havana harbor

Statue of St Christopher at Havana Harbor

also known as the Christ of Havana, it is after Saint Christopher, the patron saint of the city and its first name as the city is official, call San Cristobal de la Habana or St Christopher of the Havana. Havana being a taino indian name meaning a valley or savannah amongst two rivers, the Cojimar (famous for Heminghay The Old Man and the Sea) and Almendares (the best old professional baseball team of the city). Inploring for better time to the loving and beautiful city.

At the city often call the Paris of the Americas. Only 24 kms from where i was born to the west of the city on your way to cigar country ::)
Punta Brava Cuba

Going down to my roots

the town I was born is not touristic, its only on the old highway to the cigar region of Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Rio Cuba, the BEST cigars in the world.
A little notch in my travel map, but a big hold in my heart. My first 11 yrs of my life were here !!!

Greeting from Dublin. Bit pressed for time on hotel computer at 1 euro for 10 minutes. Will have to find one down town. Wish we were coming to France but David has watermelon fever and we go back after Tenerife.

Merci Pedro! Can't belive I still refer to people my age as 'older' - as if I was not in that group. All the best from (a very nice late fall) Orlando. Martha
