Paris with a Toddler

by ChicBaby - last update: Feb 21, 2005

Introduction

Arc de Triomphe
We have returned from Paris and it was terrific! Our toddler had a wonderful time and we were prepared for all of the “things” we encountered: most notable, the inaccessibility of the stroller in “Paris”. We carried our son in the stroller up and down flights of stairs to take the Metro, RER, museums and just around the city. Versailles pushed our stroller with its cobbled stone streets and gravel in the garden, but we pushed on. Through rain, snow, and hail, we were out and about in Paris. We even went on the top level of Le Open Bus Tour, scaled the steps of Montmarte, and went up the Eiffel Tower all with a stroller! We were exhausted every night, but it was well worth it. My husband and I even had time to escape two different nights, as our son was with a babysitter. So, yes! You can do Paris with a toddler and a stroller. It will be difficult if you don’t want to can not lift or carry strollers or your child. Most of the sights were not busy or over-run by tourists. This is a big plus for families because you don't want to spend a lot of time just waiting in lines! As you will see the pictures, it was cold. We encountered snow, wind, hail, rain and welcomed the sun for short periods of time. This Feb. was not the "best" time of the year to go, but it is cheaper (low season) and you will not feel crowded. As you read through the tips and learn more about what we did...you will see that traveling with a toddler in a stroller can be demanded, but it is well worth it! I will be adding tips and info to help others who are interested in how and what we did because as I know, there’s not a lot of info out there about this…

I was walking along the Champs-Elysees and one of these women approached us. I instinctively responed but was able to brush her off. How is one to know that these people aren't good fellow Americans in a bind?

last Saturday we were a party of 8. We sat down at 9.15 p.m, were served our first course at 10.15pm and main course at 11.15. We mostly had duck which was overcooked and greasy, and had no veg. A very disappointing evening - I will not go again.

I was at Monmatre with my 9 yr old daughter last year. I have lived in Hungary many years and know the beggars are usually 'Roma' (Gypsies) from Eastern Europe. The top tourist sites in continental Europe have this problem. C'est la Vie. Tim

These beggars are most likely gypsies or if of the more aggressive type,Albanians.
