"Tulip Town" a Holland Travel Page by Traveler342

A friend of mine recently scolded me for not "properly explaining" Holland, Michigan to him. Problem is, I don't really know how. In many ways, it's just suburban America. The town seems mostly upper-middle class, is very clean and easy to get around, and people are nice. It's a pretty town, close to the beach, with cute stores and restaurants. I liked living there, and it's a fun place to take a vacation.

But don't be decieved by first impressions. It is also a very diverse town, you just don't happen to see most of the diversity when walking around downtown or on the main college campus, Hope College. The city plays up it's Dutch heritage, and is complete with a windmill, tulip farm (the largest outside of the Netherlands, I believe), wooden shoe factory, and lots of Orange. It all creates a very interesting mix, that you really have to see to picture.
