Getting TO/AROUND: If the lonely planet guide does not give you this, I will attempt to bring in here the list of local bus routes operated by the BEST that gets you from one end of the city to another through it's myraid of inner roads and gullies and gives you a sneak view of what this city is all about.
The red color of these buses, a gift to India from the British, used to be in one other shape than the ones currently seen - the trailer bus type that I used to ride way back in the early 90s. They were phased out in the mid 90s as they were behemoths on the small roads.
But this is just the beginning. I will update here, the routes and how the tickets are charged.
For starters - my fav routes that I regularly travel on are - 312, 39, 533 Ltd, 424, 425 [to work] and otherwise - 241, 33, 79, 38, 4 Ltd
most of these except the 424, 425, and 533 run from the most popular central suburb - Dadar up north to Andheri and beyond to either the northern suburb of Goraygaon or further north west to Maalwani.
