Rome - the "returnal" city!

by Fizzyblond - last update: Feb 23, 2005

Needed a well earned break - but not a rest!

Wonderful evening in Trastevere
After nearly a year without a break I managed to get a 5 day holiday in Rome for a friend and myself - and what a great time we had! I had previously been there 20 years ago so it was a very emotional return for me - I had put Lira in the Trevi Fountain before, - this time it has to be Euros!! Oh well, that's progress and I did keep to my motto of "live in the moment" - lovely weather, company, friendships made and every reason to go back and do some more!!
Chri and Yvonne wish you all a Happy New Year!!

New Years Trip to Rome

Had to return didnt I, so friend and I made a 4 day break for New Year and stayed in the Marco Polo Hotel again. Were welcomed like old friends, by all the staff. Took no notice of maps this time and just wandered around the city. New Year is quieter than London and Paris (two cities I have been able to spend NYEve in luckily several times each). It is a more laid back experience and also the entertainment is more focussed on people bringing out their own fireworks (bit dangerous but fun too!)

The Piazza Del Poppolo had a wonderful sound and light show, with flying acrobatics depicting the story of Peter Pan, there was even a model Pirate Ship! Beautiful evening and wonderfully well behaved crowds all the way back to our hotel - Auguri to you all (Good Health for those who are a bit rusty!)

Pros:"Architecture, culture, coffee, romance, food, wine, shopping, warmth and welcome"
Cons:"not having enough time to do all the things I wanted to - nothing I hate about this city!"
In A Nutshell:"Every corner has its own magic"
