White sand and turquoise water Cancún (the “nest of serpents” in the Mayan language) is Mexico’s most popular tourist resort and it cannot avoid either positive or negative (side) effects of this position. |
| | The tourist island Cancún has two absolutely different parts: the so-called downtown area inhabited by the locals on the mainland and Cancún Beach (or Cancún Island which is rather a peninsula in fact). This latter is simply for tourists (and, of course, mainly U.S. tourists whatever "consequences" this may bring) - only hotels, tourist shops, bars and restaurants. |
| | A blue lagoon between Cancún and Cancún Nichupte Lagoon divides Cancún Island (the Hotel Zone) from the mainland where the city itself is located. The beach has an "L" shape (or "7" if you like) and almost 20 km long with white sand and really spectacular turquoise water which is, given a constant strong wind, always billowy. |

| Pros: | "Really great color of the sea, "all-inclusive" infrastructure (supply)" | | Cons: | "Too windy, too crowded, too noisy" | | In A Nutshell: | "The "Mexican Miami Beach"" |
