Parliament (Orszaghaz): Beautiful interior
  • Tip Rating:
  • It looks amazing not only outside so it's really worth a visit. You can go only with a guided tour (in several languages) every hour: Mon: 8-11, Tue-Sat: 8-16, Sun: 8-14. The ticket costs 2.300 HUF (12 USD) but free for EU citizens (they just have to get the admission ticket at gate X. at the NE corner, near the eternal flame of the revolution of 1956).

Buda Castle (Budavar): Great panorama 2
  • Tip Rating:
  • Budapest Buda Castle (Budavar)
  • View from Halaszbastya 2
  • by Robert_Hun

  • The Castle hill (Budai Var or Varhegy), the Castle District have a lot to offer: the district itself is a little pearl within the city (old, narrow streets, nice little houses), the Matthias church (Matyas templom) and the Fisherman Bastion (Halaszbastya) from where you have a great view on the city.

Gellert Hill (Gellert-hegy) - Citadella: Great panorama 3
  • Tip Rating:
  • Budapest Gellert Hill (Gellert-hegy) - Citadella
  • View from the Citadel
  • by Robert_Hun
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Literally on the top of the city (although the highest point, 524 m, is Janos hegy on the western edge of Buda) Citadella on Gellerthegy (Gellert hill) provides the greatest view of Budapest - day and night. There is a ruined fortress and the statue of Liberty (okay, a bit smaller than that in New York :-)) but the best of all is the wonderful panorama on both Buda and Pest side, the Danube with the Elizabeth and Liberty bridge. There is a popular view point just next to the parking lot.
You should come here at least twice: in daylight and after dark.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Budapest Funicular (Siklo)
  • Castle wall next to the Siklo
  • by Robert_Hun

  • One of the best and funniest way to get up to the Buda Castle is the Siklo (funicular) from the Buda side of the Chain Bridge, at the square: Clark Adam ter.

St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika): The biggest church in Budapest
  • Tip Rating:
  • Situated in the heart of the city, Szent Istvan Bazilika (or just Bazilika) is a fully renovated, spectacular cathedral. The name-giver, Saint Stephen was the first Hungarian king (around 1000 AD) who founded the Hungarian state and made Christianity general in the country.
The cupola is 96 m high, just as that of the Parliament, and offers a great view of the city.
A must-see is the so-called Holy Right, the right arm of King Stephen.
The right tower houses the country's biggest bell of 9 tonnes.
    Opening hours: Mon-Sat: 0900-1700, Sun: 1300-1700

  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Budapest Heroes' Square (Hosok tere)
  • One section of the square
  • by Robert_Hun
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • The biggest square in Budapest, a relic of a proud era in Hungary's history.
It hosted the 1000th anniversary of the Hungarian settlement, the Millenium Celebrations opened in 1896.
An impressive example of the Hungarian pride is the Millenary Monument, whose colonnades feature statues and relieves of the most outstanding Hungarian rulers and statesmen emphasizing Archangel Gabriel on the top of the central pillar.

City Park (Varosliget): Full of leisure and cultural experience
  • Tip Rating:
  • Budapest City Park (Varosliget)
  • The lake of the City Park
  • by Robert_Hun
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • One of the finest quarters of Budapest offering a lot of interesting sights: beside the nice park itself with playgrounds you can find here the Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Gallery, the Szechenyi Thermal Baths, the Zoo next to the famous Gundel Restaurant (opposite to an equally fine place to eat out: the Robinson), the old (and a bit odd) amusement park (Vidampark), a small lake (for pleasure boats in the summer and ice-skating in the winter) and a charming castle which is a replica of the Vajdahunyad Castle in Transylvania (Rumania) which houses the museum of agriculture and a nice little chapel.
