Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew: Royal beauty

  • This is an absolute must in Bangkok.
    It's a huge complex of several buildings with great decoration and ornaments, including the famous Wat Phra Kaeo, the temple of the emerald Buddha.

    Address: Maharaj Pier, Chao Phraya, Bangkok
    Directions: The combined compound is open 8.30am to 3.30pm everyday. Cost is 200B (if you are Thai, it's free), and includes admission to Vimanmek Mansion and Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall, both in the Dusit area.

    Wat Pho: The most spectacular temple in Bangkok

  • This is the "second must" after the Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaeo complex.
    A huge site with lots of smaller buildings with wonderful decorations. The main building houses the gigantic gold Reclining Buddha.
    Wat pho is famous for the traditional Thai massage, too.

    Address: Tha Tien Pier, Chao Phraya River, Bangkok
    Directions: The entrance to Wat Pho is on Chetuphon road. Situated next to (south of) the Grand Palace complex. It's open every day, opening hours are from 08.00am to 5.00pm, with a break from 12.00pm to 1.00pm.

    Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn): The Temple of Dawn

  • This one is on the western bank of the Chao Phraya river (opposite the Grand Palace and Wat Pho).
    It's famous for its porcelain-covered pagoda which sparkles in the sunshine.

    Directions: From this pier take a cross river ferry to Wat Arun.

  • A really spectacular temple with several buildings which make it worth visiting.

    Wat Traimit - Temple of the Golden Buddha: 5 tons of gold

  • A relatively small temple with an enormous seated Buddha of 5 tons of gold, more than 700 years old.

  • I had a great experience in this temple, as you can see on the picture, I just found myself in a school lesson held under Buddhas.

  • Well, exactly how you imagine a Chinatown anywhere else in the world.
    Many small shops, narrow streets, vivid, crowded (maybe a bit chaotic), colors, lights and, of course, great food.
