Barcelona, is quite simply, an amalgation of cuisine, art, and a laid-back lifestyle. It is a town that has energy, without having the stresses of a major city. Art-wise it should be clearly apparent from the abundant presence of Gaudi-esque architecture that Barcelona is an art capital. Furthermore, Picasso, Dali, and Miro all got their starts right here in Barca.
While Barcelona is the heart of Catalunya and has served as a base for "Catalanism" throughout the past, it is nevertheless a highly cosmopolitan city as there will be a large and diverse community of ex-pats and other transplants living here. The Catalan economy has been doing quite well and as a result, Barcelona is Spain's business-industrial engine. For those of you looking to work abroad, Barcelona might be worth consideration. |
