Lake Taupo in the centre of North Island is an amazing region. If you are interested in fishing , tramping , sking , bungy , Sky diving etc etc this is the place to go. There is so much to see and do. When I was here , I did some fly fishing on the Tongariro River as well as tramping in the National Parks. Amazing place. Whether you are looking for some R & R or some excitement and adrenalin rush, you can find both here.

Lake Taupo itself was created by the largest eruption of the past 5,000 years, it was so big the sun went hazy in China. Today, what remains is a lake the size of Singapore.

Huka Falls

Taking a ride on the Huka jets to the huka falls is a great way to experience the awesome power of the falls but can be expensive.

Huka is the Maori word for foam.
NZ’s most visited natural attraction. 3km north of Taupo. Largest waterfall on the Waikato River - 62,000 gallons (200,000 litres) per second.

Cons:Main tourist areas so you get everything that comes with it.
In a nutshell:More than just a big lake!
