Tauranga-Mt Maunganui

Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty region is a typical NZ city characterised by well planned shopping streets downtown and a very nice cafe and restaurant scene along The Strand facing the wharf.

The Bay of Plenty, from Waihi Beach to Cape Runaway along the Pacific Coast Highway, has outstanding surf beaches, with Mount Maunganui and Ohope the most popular. The entire bay offers magnificent waters for big-game fishing with Mayor Island a world-renowned base for the sport. Inland waterways host jet-boating.

Personally , I don't find Tauranga city itself that exciting to visit , although I must say the city council have done a great job of landscaping the street.
Devonport Road and Willow street is the main shopping area, if you are looking to do some shopping.
