"Gateway to Paradise!" Glenorchy by Robdaz

Glenorchy - Gateway to Paradise! That's what greet you as you head out of Queenstown along the western shore of Lake Wakatipu. It's about a 40mins drive that is well worth every minute of it with. You will be rewarded with stunning apline scenery of mountain and lake along the way. It was fairly sunny when we left Queenstown and half way thorugh a thick fog rolled in , reminding us a bit of an episode of X-files with tall thick pine trees on both side of the road and aliens in the woods. When we reached Glenorchy the fog lifted and we have an amazing view of the Southern Alps.

I only wish I have more time to do some tramping and kayaking in the area but as we have to catch a flight back to Auckland in the afternoon, this will have to wait for another day.

The town centre comprised of a couple of cafes, a hotel and several shops painted in red selling local art. Don't forget to check out the Possum Shop.

The road to Glenorchy is just stunning. If you love the Outdoor, this is the place to be. Get away from the tourist traps that is Queenstown and spent a day in paradise.
