The Treasury | The Treasury from The Siq |
For me, it was one of those "take your breath away" moments, the first time I saw The Treasury. Photos (well mine anyway) don't do it justice, either for its beauty or sheer scale. After about 30 minutes of walking through the gorgeous Siq, you glimpse The Treasury and wow! |
| | The city was home to the Nabateans and was formed possibly as early as the 5th century BC, but the Treasury was completed sometime in the 1st century BC. I just stood in front of it and was amazed by how complex it was, how huge and how perfectly carved. Anyone fancy trying to replicate it today?!
The city of Petra covers miles. You will need decent shoes on the amount of ground you will cover during a day there. |
| | The Monastry Not everyone that visits Petra gets as far as The Monastry. It is an 850 steep walk up to it (or a slightly easier on the legs donkey ride) but it is yet another fantastic building. Please do not miss it, it's brilliant. Also, once you are up at The Monastry it is only a 5 minutes walk to several view points looking out over the southern part of the Dead Sea in the distance. The view alone is worth the trek to the top. |
