Agra - Home of Taj Mahal

The beautiful Taj Mahal
It is with great trepidation that I start to write this page. I really want to do it justice but know somehow that I can't. I also know that much better writers before me have done this with better pictures - but this is my take on it!

Everyone knows what the Taj Mahal looks like. I remember first seeing it in books when I was maybe 6 years old. As a young child in growing up in Lambeth in South London I never dreamt I'd ever get to actually go and see the Taj Mahal, even touch it - but wow!

There is nothing about the Taj that is not beautiful. The grounds are lovely, and you are struck by the symetry in it all. As you look at the Taj, on the left they built a mosque. So to make it symetrical they built and identical building on the other side of the Taj. These buildings are stunning in their own right and if they were not right next door to one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, they would attract thousands of visitors to them. As it is, they are largely overlooked. Don't overlook them if you visit!

I will put other photos on my travelogue for the Taj Mahal, and also for Agra Fort. That is a special place as well.

The entrance!

Even the entrance gate is an absolute work of art. The picture shows the main gate leading into the inner part of the Taj Mahal complex.

Such craftsmanship was used in its construction, but you barely notice because through its arched gates you can see the Taj waiting for you.
The mosque at Taj Mahal

The Mosque at the Taj Mahal

As I mentioned above, the mosque within the grounds is a fantastic building - also as you can see, there are hardly any people visiting them which is a shame but it does give you an opportunity to explore in peace!
