Kuala Lumpur Hotel Tips by Ylro

We arrived new years day 2005 and checked out in the middle of the night. Impossible to get any sleep. There were very loud karaoke singing and it got louder and louder as the night proceeded. We checked out at midnight, the receptionist was very helpful though. We went straigt to Shangri-La witch it felt like once in bed. Anyway, a pitty, because the Federal is really well located between all the shopping malls.

Unique Qualities: A friend of ours recomended this hotel, good location, decent hotel at a smaller cost. We had a poor experience from this hotel. Very understaffed. The staff worked really hard to maintain a very poor service standard. People was quing up in front of the reception. We got one of the larger rooms at the hotel and asked the maid for an extra towel for our child, she gave us one very reluctantly. Bad service. We did not see the poolarea. We got a poor impression of the onsight restaurants. I donīt want to be mean but we really did get a very poor impression of this hotel. We do not recommend this hotel to anyone. We recomend you to pay 30-50 usd more and go to Shangri-La or Marriot up the street.

Second time at Shangri-La in Jan 2006. Well, it is good, cannot argue with that. I feel though the hotel is a bit impersonel. A business hotel. Anyways, I like the gym very much. Good treadmills that includes entertainment systems and a feeling of running in the rainforest, nice touch. I weight train a lot so I really appreciate the free weights area. Only a smith-machine but it works. The staff could be a bit more helpful though.

Breakfast area is still nice and there are so, so much food, too much! We ordered breakfast at the room and it was sent a bit late but the meal was lovely. The staff made a mistake and tried to charge us a bit too much, they were very regrettful to make up for the mistake. Apreciated!

The entertainment in the Lobby during christmas time consists of singing girls from the Filipines. They sing very well but it is a bit tacky that they walk around and talk with the guests afterwards, in my opinion.

As we go to KL each year we will be there again in Jan 2007, we will tryout the WESTIN or Mandarine Oriental. Not Shangri-La.

Jan 2005. We arrived at the Shangri-La in the middle of the night from a horrid experience at the Federal at Bintang. The service is excellent. The staff works fast and are eager to help. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and feels welcoming. We stayed three nights and got a late check out. A baby cot for our child got to our room ten minuts after our check in. No fuss. Smiling and friendly staff. Good poolarea. Fantastic breakfast buffet. Any food is available. Amazing japanese restaurant on site, expensive but the food is outstanding. THe service is inpeccable. We had sandwiches from the Lemon cafe and there were very very fresh and good.

We stayed at the new world wing. We stayed at fr 9-12 dec. 2004. We got a room with staines on the mirror. No amenities. Poor performancies from the concierge when we asked them to book a flight to KK for us. TO high price for a poor hotel experience at a bad location, we took taxis everywhere wich ads up. Eventhough the New World WIng isnt as fancy as the other wing it is very unattractive when the staff is arrogant, illbehaved, the rooms are in poor condition.

Unique Qualities: There is a view of the Petronas towers from almost all rooms wich is very nice. The Chinese restaurant at the Renaissance is a very very nice treat. Sauteed lilly bulbs, delicous! Good pool area!
