  • To celebrate the history of cinema, from its origins to today, the National Museum of Cinema offers visitors numerous exhibits and multimedia displays. The Museum couldn’t have a better location – it is housed in the famous Mole Antonelliana. One of the most interesting exhibits is the collection of pre-cinema objects belonging to the Prolo Foundation (which founded the museum in 1941). The main and central room is dominated by the golden idol of the film “Cabiria” by Giovanni Pastrone. Five floors, which wind around the central room, lead you through the history of cinema (from the magic lamps to digital film).

  • The Egyptian Museum of Turin is the most important Egyptian museum in the world after the one in Cairo. Carlo Felice founded the museum in 1824 after he acquired the collection of the French consul in Egypt. At the beginning of the 1900's, the museum director Ernesto Schiapparelli not only acquired important objects from other collections, but he also ran various excavations in Egypt which resulted in 17,000 new finds. Today the museum conserves a total of 30,000 ancient objects, some of which are one-of-a-kind, such as the stone temple to Ellesija (rebuilt stone by stone), the statue of Ramses II, and the funeral chest of Kha e Merit.

  • Nestled in the Valentino park, the Borgo Medievale (Medieval Village) takes you back in time. The village, however, it not original – it was built for the General Italian Exposition of 1884 in to reproduce the way of life of the 15th Century. Still today you can take a tour of the castle with its lights, sounds, and smells of another time or purchase a fun souvenir at the village stores and print shops.

  • This is one of the most important automobile museums in Europe in terms of how it documents the evolution of the automobile through the display of original cars. Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia was a founding partner of FIAT and the Italian Automobile Club. The museum takes you through roughly a kilometer of automobiles. Some of the cars are real rarities, such as the first Italian cars: the Bernardi of 1896, the Fiat of 1899; others are automobile jewels, such as the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost and the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo racing cars.

  • A real treasure awaits you a few kilometers outside the city. In 1729 Vittorio Amedeo II commissioned what he wanted to be the architectural embodiment of originality and audacity, and he entrusted the project to Filippo Juvarra. The construction is in the form of the cross of Sant’Andrea, and it centers around a great elliptical room. In the middle of the room stands Francesco Ladatte’s “Cervo” (deer) statue.
The trip alone to the Palazzina takes you along a gorgeous avenue lined with old stables and country houses.

  • This important church and symbol of Turin sits perched atop the Superga hill (669 meters above sea level) overlooking the city. The great Filippo Juvarra designed the church after the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), and the Basilica soon became a symbol of the Savoy wealth and power. The Basilica (whose cupola is 75 meters tall) served as the burial site of the Savoy family from Vittorio Amedeo II to Carlo Alberto. Today the Basilica di Superga is the site of religious pilgrimages as well as a favorite spot for young couples who love the panorama (a tramvia or cable car was set up in 1934 to facilitate the ascent). Here a plaque memorializes the tragedy of the “Grande Torino” airplane crash of May 4, 1949 which claimed the lives of the Torino Football Club players.

Hi I want to travel from Torino to Lourdes by train via Grenoble/Lyon/Toulouse. How long would the journey take? Or is there a better route? Cheers/yongjoe.
