| One of the log cabin UNESCo homes, Vlkolinec |
Located in the low Tatras mountains, Vlkolinec is a sweet little town, which would not be known to tourists if it wasn't an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It made the list in 1993, due to the 45 well preserverd log houses, which are of the same period. The oldest house is from the 15th century. One of the houses has a small museum, you may have to ask them to open it up for you if there aren't many people there.
The town is open 9 am to 3pm. People still live here so don't be too touristy and be aware of your surroundings. I got the impression from some residents, they aren't too happy about them being listed on the UNESCO list. But the rest of the residents were quite friendly and full of smiles. |
