This is one of the world's best hotels. We stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and was well worth the splurge. We had a beautiful room with a river view. Each floor has their own personal butler, who delivered freshly squeezed fruit juice when we checked in. Each day, we had fresh fruit delivered into our room. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was very nice. During the day, the butler took my husband's shoes and had them polished-without our asking. High tea by the river is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this hotel.

If you want a cheap hotel in a good location-this may be the place for you. We spent around 30 usd for a small suite, our friend spent $25 usd and got a room with two twin beds and small balcony. The rooms probably haven't been renovated for years-maybe a decade. They are clean, but there are some stains on the wall, fabric headboards, some ripped sheets and well worn towels. It's a 5 minute walk to the BTS(skytrain station-saphan taksin), and also central pier-right on the river, around the corner is a 7 eleven and Robinson's department store. The other hotels located in the area, are all 5 star and cost over 100usd-atleast it's an affordable option in this area. One complaint i had was that the air conditioning isn't turned on before you check in and turned off when they made the room. I am saying this not because i like a cool room-but because of the musty smell, which is very strong. There must be a lot of mold in this hotel. I didn't have any allergy problems, but when staying here you may need some decongestants.

This place has a good location-right smack in the middle of Bangkok's best shopping areas. It's also directly on the skytrain. We chose this hotel-since we wanted to go to the weekend market at Mo Chit and do some serious shopping. For this hotel, the negatives outweighed the positives. The rooms are dark and depressing. Decor is stuck in the late 70s. The staff was not helpful. The shower curtain kept falling down and the bathroom floor flooded with water. Not a clean hotel. The breakfast buffet was not very good. There are so many other good affordable hotels- i wouldn't stay here again.

Centre Point Silom: Bangkok's great secret

Centre point is nota an ordinary hotel, but a serviced apartment right in the middle of the Silom area of Bangkok. I have stayed here twice, always wonderful. You can either get an apartment with a river view (highly recommended) or save a few bucks and get the city view. This is especially good for families or friends-since the room is quite large and you can easily get an extra bed or have them sleep on the coach. There is a great buffet breakfast included in the building. Also pool and gym. Staff is very friendly. The location is tops. The serviced apartment is located on top of Robinson's department store (also supermarket located below the store) and is a 5 minute walk to the sky train line-saphan taksin station. Also, the central pier station or tha sathon is right there. This is great-since you can easily take river taxis or the chao phraya express boat to wat arun, wat phra kaew and other sites. The hotels that are located in nearby (right behind Shangri-la, Oriental etc.) are all over 100 usd a night. We paid 85 usd for a large one bedroom apartment with river view. Some floors have carpeting while others are hardwood. I think you can book the hotel through their website or at www.hoteltravel.com

When seeing the lobby and rooms of this hotel, it's hard to imagine that this is a Holiday Inn property. This is a beautiful, swanky, cool hotel. The lobby is full of glass, modern and clean lines and comfy sofas. The bar and restaurants are beautiful. We stayed in a standard room on the 6th floor. A non smoking floor. The rooms are on the small side, but wonderful. The bathroom is very stylish. The shower is lovely, with two shower heads. One rain shower head and a normal hand held. The bed is very comfortable. Overall, very impressed with this hotel. We were able to get a discount rate at www.hoteltravel.com, otherwise it can be very pricey. If you don't get breakfast included in the rate, it is $14USD. You can get breakfast in your room for $11USD. We just found stuff around the hotel to eat. There are many malls in the area and sadly lots of Starbucks. It's easy to grab something cheap to eat in the area. The hotel is right against the Intercontinental hotel. Both hotels are right next to the BTS skytrain Chitlom station. The location is excellent. You are right next to Gaysorn and Central department stores. Siam BTS station is one stop away. The other Holiday Inn property is in Silom. Holiday Inn Bangkok is highly recommended, especially if you are on business.
