| | 2003 ASIAN FEVER My first trip to Asia after being recommend by a good friend was in 2003 to Thailand. The moment I saw Bangkok I knew this was a place so different from home we had to come back and so we did. Being on an organized tour with many cons we decided to go on our own in the future. Thailand is so easy to travel with so many accommodations and facilities. |

| | 2005 THAILAND AND CAMBODIA Landed in BKK ,immediately to KSR to get our Visa for Cambodia. Bangkok looked less mystical as the first experience.Déjà vu even after 15 months,we slept in Shanti Lodge recommended by many backpackers . We left for Kanchanaburi guest house on the river Kwai while waiting for the visa.. Its really getting used to the lack of luxury in those guest houses but it works. We took the first bus at 5 am in the morning cause we couldn't sleep that well from excitement. Nice trip to the Thai-Cambodia border. Crossing the border took some time, then by foot into Poipet a town or a public garbage belt little difference,we were the only Falang there. Took a taxi and then 5 hour drive on "The Hell of Asia" to arrive at the beautiful Angkor. All my thanks go out to Tales of Asiaabsolutely number 1 info site on this trip. |
| | 2006 Myanmar (Burma) Going on vacation in this country is of course a controversy. We tried all we could to spend as little money as possible getting in hands of the dictatorship.Although therefore we missed certain highlights the main highlight of the country is its population! We had the honour to spend as much time as we could with local people, eating where they eat, sleeping in non-government run guest houses and hotels. It was by far the most beautiful country with the nicest people we've ever been to. Myanmar the land of thanaka, million pagodas, unseen landscapes, betelnut chewers,Bagan plain of Buddhist merits, unique way of life on the lake,... Myanmar has it all and stole our hearts. Hopefully the day that a whole population is taken hostages comes to an end soon... |
| | 2007 Tibet & Nepal The Chinese government decided to shorten our visa from the original 28 days (that we paid for) to 9 days ( due to pro-Tibet action at Mt Everest). For us this holiday was a 1 time opportunity to visit Tibet so we bought several trips from a local Tibetan travel agent to prolong our stay. He ripped us completely with a slow motion driver and a guide who slept all the time all the way ...worst experience ever. But it gave us a change to see more from Nepal and do the Jomsom trekking : best experience ever ! |
