Been Here! Done This., but Not That | Disney Hall from City Hall |
From the posts I see on VT, it is readily apparent that some info on this City needs to be available. If you have any recommendations please do not hesitate to let me know.
So I start this with LA's latest! The one, the only, the Disney Concert Hall. This shot taken from (where else) but the top of City Hall.
Let me see if I can arrange this page to start downtown and then head out from there.
Between the Disney Hall, the Dorothy Chandler, the Mark Taper Forum and the Ahmanson, you can find some top qualify entertainment.
If you are there during the day, visit the LA Central Library (now known as the Richard Riordan Central Library), the Museum of Contemporary Art on Grand, or the Children's Museum on Broadway.
First travelogue will be the downtown scene. |
| Typical Movie Location Shoot in LA |
| | Movie Making As so often happens in LA, films, TV and commercials are shot on the local streets. This is fairly typical of the mass of trucks, equipment and bodies that accompany a location shoot. Most of the actors you see are extras, but occasionally you see a celebrity. Don't be intimidated by the crews (which appear and often act surly), security and police. |
As Long As We Are Pointing LA is so spread out it can be intimidating for the locals. Most folks fly into LAX from the East and fly over miles and miles of city, from San Bernardino until they land. As they look South there is nothing but more City.
In Downtown, though Pershing Square is not much to look at, right next door is the Jewely Center. Due South is Staples Center and then the Convention Center. A mile or later you have USC, the University of So. Cal. and then the Los Angeles County Museum.
South, not much until you go about 25 miles to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Anaheim Statium and the Pond.
North, Dodger Stadium, the Griffith Park and the LA Zoo. Glendale, then to the East, Pasadena.
West, at mid Wilshire you have the La Brea Tar Pits and LA County Museum of Art, then Beverly Hills, West LA, the Getty, Santa Monica and Venice. From Santa Monica you can pop North up to Malibu. Or South down to Marina Del Rey, LAX
East, you head toward the inland communities, but there is not much there from a tourist standpoint. Maybe someone will correct me. | | |
