My new friend from Kiev dropped me off at my hotel. Here is a city that wants to embrace the old history and move as quickly as possible into the modern. Seven hills with new and old and rebuilt architecture, with many green spaces make it a wonderful city to walk around.
These tanks painted in the hippie love style are illustrative of the Ukrainian humor that abounds in Kiev. A sign worded "Don't Worry, Eat Shashlik" (which, once you have had Ukrainian shishkabob kind of makes sense). The best coffee in town is found at McDonald's. Considering all the "complications" one deals with in Kiev, they need to have a sense of humor.

Some of those photos in your Chernobyl travelogue are eerie. I hope you didn't get too much radiation when you were there.
Karl, fantastic updates here. Great to see that you nejoyed Kvass. We also quite often enjoyed a meal at Puzata Hata in Ukraine.

As ever, I find the monumental sculptures of this region particularly interesting - and sniggered at your comment about the Mother of the Fatherland looking like a stern tour guide!
