Castle now Museum Belvedere Belvedere Review

Quite a lovely palace with exquisite landscaping (although it could have used a soccer pitch), the artwork inside was awesome. Works by Klimpt (The Kiss) and Egon Schiele as well as many impressionist, local and classical artists. It was a wonderful way to start my exploration of Vienna. There are some wonderful paintings by the Viennese painter Biedermeier. The downside is that no photographs are allowed inside.

Built by Prince Eugene of Savoy in the 18th Century as the summer residence.

Open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, on Weds to 9 PM. The combined ticket price is 13.50E, or for just the upper or lower, 9.50E.

Monuments to Musicians

Vienna is loaded with monuments, many of them to famous composers. This on of Johannes Brahms is by Karlsplatz.

Minoriten Church Minoritenkirche - Church of the Minoriti Review

Built starting in 1784, the rock like finish is in stark contrast to the gothic churches that abound in Vienna. The arched walkway on one side is very interesting. There was on other photographer waiting for the light to reach a certian point.

Jewish Holocaust Memorial

Located in Judenplatz, the Memorial to the 65,000 Austrian Holocaust Victims was unveiled in 2000. Designed to reflect 7,000 books turned inside out, the doors are locked to represent the loss of those who were murdered.

Kunst Historiches Museum Kunsthistorisches Museum - KHM Review

One of the finest museums I have enjoyed. The Kunst Historiches Museum rates right up there with the Louvre and Prado. From ancient Egyptian and Greek to classical master pieces, it was a great experience. The museum was designed as a museum. The architecture is stunning.

Ruprechtskirche

Just a short walk from the Danube Canal, and up a short flight of stairs the old church is probably the oldest church in Vienna. there are some great wall art on the neighboring buildings related to the church.

The Cathedral Tower and Interior Stephansdom Review

For a few euro you can take the elevator up to the top of the tower. You get a great view of the gothic detail, the roof tiles and a view of Vienna. Interior there are laser lights giving a modern look to a normally staid church interior.

Volkstheatre Volkstheater Review

On the West side of the Museum Quartier is the peoples theatre for opera and the like.

Maria Am Gestade Maria Am Gestade Church Review

One of the oldest buildings in Vienna. The gothic church, close to the Danube canal, was built in the 14th century.

Spanish Riding School Spanische Hofreitschule - Lipizzaner Review

A small museum, store, type outlet in the Palace summarizes the Spanish Riding School unless you wanted to pay for a tour, which I did not have time for. There were books, clothing, toys, on the famous horse riding school.
