A cool place to visit with lots of history. It did seem odd though. I didn't see a lot of tourists. I am sure there were some around, but if they were there they were traveling incognito. I wouldn't call it a pretty town. Most of the place was bombed to rubble during WW II. A few places stand out, William the Conquerer's Castle, the church St. Pierre de Caen. We did miss the two monestaries, and the art museum. |

BeatChick Thu Dec 27, 2007 04:22 UTC Beautiful photos of Caen, Karl! LOVE the photo of William the Conqueror's castle ramparts - excellent stuff!! | ATLC Thu Dec 20, 2007 07:39 UTC I never really visited Caen properly. The gueux are actually not only beggars but in a certain meaning 'water beggars' or pirates. My hometown Brielle is known to be the town of the 'Geuzen'. That's history going back to April 1, 1572. | Mikebond Thu May 4, 2006 14:39 UTC Good tips about Caen. I liked the photo of the sign in the warnings section. I didn't see that statue of Jeanne d'Arc when I visited Caen, however her city is Rouen, which is even more beautiful than Caen. |
