This is a small family restaurant just West of r. du Louvre at 31 r. Coquilliere was perfect for a cold, drizzly evening. The room was warm and the service friendly and helpful.

Favorite Dish: I had duck comfit on toast, over greens in a garlicy oil and vineger, the a cassoulet (stew) of beans, sausage, duck and ham with a bottle of merlot, Altera Vin de Pay d'Or. . It was wonderful Including the bottel of wine it was around $40.

The Smoking Dog - when I saw the website, I had to go check it out. It turned out to be a great place for a meal. The play on smoking dogs was evident throughout the restaurant, with famous paintings on the wall modified to a smoking dog quirkiness. The waiters were great and the service excellent. We got there early and by the end of our meal it was packed. The food was very good. My lamb chops were very tasty and my dad loved his steak. The menu is around 30 euro, plus or minus, so it is not a cheap place, but well worth it. I don't think a chat would be welcome.

Favorite Dish: If I may quote my daughter who just visited Paris "Dad - Au Chein Qui Fume was one of the best meals we've had. It is a really fun restaurant."

We were already at the Pompidou and I had heard good things about the restaurant at the top floor. Welcoming us were three very attractive hostesses. We did not have reservations but had no trouble getting a table outside at around 7. The waiter was slow in coming and finally gave us our menus which were very artsy, but you could barely read the menu due to the light print, and the prices might as well been written in invisible ink. But very artsy. Of course, my eyes may have been strained because I was looking straight at the back of the hostess station, womaned by the very chic hostesses. My wife ordered the filet mignon with bernaise sauce which was well prepared, but the meat was not the best filet I have tasted. I don't quite remember what I had, as I must have been distracted by those damn hostesses, but I do remember my wife stole my mashed potatos. Kind of expensive for what you got and the service was not that great.

Favorite Dish: Great view of the Eiifel Tower , especially when the lights went on. Did I mention the hostesses?

We stopped here for a light meal, desert and coffee. The menu was very reasonable and the service friendly. The beef bourginnon (sp) was very tasty. Very comfortable place with several tables of locals enjoying the ambiance.

A page out of the French Alps, complete with white pine interior and a charming garden patio in the back. I wanted to give my parents a taste of fondue. After the cheese fondue with much dipping bread, and wine to wash it down, we then ordered the chocolat fondue. Melted dark chocolat with a supply of various fruits, apple, orange, banana, kiwi, for dipping.

Favorite Dish: All that melting cheese may be bad for you, but life is short anyway, and we drank an extra bottle of red wine to molify and detrimental effects of the cheese.

  • Paris - A fine baguette place in the Marais

  • Restaurant Name: La Baguette du Marais

As we headed over to the Musee Carnavalet in the Marais on a Sunday afternoon, we came across La Baguette du Marais, a very typical boulanger/patisier. Sometimes the food quality is a bit lacking in places like this, but this place had the best curried chicken salad in a baguette. And it was huge. One was enough for two of us for lunch. And the cost was only around 4 euro. On rue S' Croix de la Bretonnerie.

Favorite Dish: As I mentioned above, the chicken curry in a baguette

Madeleine 7: Typical Cafe / Brasserie near Madeleine

Madeleine 7 is a typical cafe/brasserie that abound in Paris. The food was good quality and the portions fair, but I would not say memorable. The service was excellent and our waiter was very good. The price was better than many similiar establishments we went to. A mixed crowd seemed to enjoy being out. We dined at the outside tables and watched the comings and goings at a nightclub across the street. I would not hesitate to go again.

Favorite Dish: We had salads and they were both very good.

The woman running the place spoke excellent English was very welcoming. A warm, fun atmosphere with an excellent selection of typical Parisian fare, from frog legs, fromage, duck, . the place is on the small side and tends to fill up, but we did not need a reservation on a Saturday night. Very reasonable prix fix dinners.

Favorite Dish: Cheese plate was fantastic and we could barely finish it.

I need to do the exact route from CDG to Les Chatelet with my 74 year old mother with knee problems. Could you tell me how many flights of stairs there are from buying the ticket to the actual B- line RER train stop at CDG?

A gem of a page, amusing reading and with an eye for off the beaten path detail. I stayed in the same area (hotel) and thus also ate (excellently) at Le Chien qui Fume. As for Beef Wellington, my suggestion would be Napoleon "Bone Aparte" hotpot.
