A Pretty and Winey Town

St. Emilion is a gorgeous little town built on and out of the limestone hill it is situated on. As I rode up the hill the town was deceivingly hidden. It seemed like a very slight grade but once to the town the streets drop off steeply. The city was built from the limestone quarried from the hill the City was built on. In addition to the buildings, the effort created naturally climate controlled caves for storing wine and also places of worship, including the cave of St. Emilion and the impressive Monolithic Church.

Rich in History

My first impression of the St. Emilion is the remaining North facing wall, the only remaining vestige of the church destroyed during the 100 Years War circa 1200.
