Shieldaig Lodge: Victorian Lodge near Gairloch

The Lodge is a hiking and fishing HQ. 3 miles S of Gairloch, it is very comfortable, with a big fat reading parlor and another parlor with a TV from the 19th century. It sits on a beautiful bay. The in house owner/chef prepares the meals. One night was mediocre, the other night the meal was great. Our room was large, ensuite, but not much of a view. The downside is that it is 3 miles away from Gairloch. On the plus side is Buzz, the dog and being a good start point for the Faerie Loch / Crash site hike.

Shorefield House: Middle of the Isle of Skye

The Shorefield House in Edinbane, sitting between Dunvegan and Portree. It is a very homey place run by Hilary and Peter Prall. The rooms are very comfortable, but vary in size. You really need a car as Edinbane is quite small. But the Edinbane Hotel is across the street with traditional music on many, but not all nights. The breakfast menu is excellent and varied.
