Batu Caves is a famous Hindu temple where a famous pilgrimage takes place every year on Thaipusam, and also famous for it's 272-steps stairs. The Dark Caves is about 3/4 way up the stairs, and suited for an adventure, an introduction to caving. It was my first caving experience. The adventure will take you crawlling through tight tunnels. Get ready for this wet and muddy adventure. If you do not have a caving suit, you can wear t-shirt and long pants (do not wear your favourite cloths). You may wear shorts if you prefer, but that would let water and mud in you know where, "unfilthered". Shower facility is provided for a fee of RM1. Bring clean clothes to change into. For conservation reasons, the cave is cared for by the Malaysian Nature Society, and they have authorised guides for the Dark Caves. Visitors are not allowed in the cave without an official guide. Entrance for Batu Caves is free, and Dark Caves adventure charges a reasonable fee. Do check out the website for more information on organised trips to the Dark Caves.
