According to the Bradt Travel Guide, "Omnogobi is more commonly known as the South Gobi. It is part of Mongolia's Golden Circuit, referred to as one of the classic routes. The aimag has many visitors, despite being the hottest and driest region of Mongolia".
Visiting the Gobi Desert was the most interesting part of my trip. Something that I will always remember. What I liked best was:
1) looking at the stars at night in the middle of the desert. It is the most striking sight I have seen. The night sky looks exactly like in a planetarium. You can see the stars and the milky way touching the line on the horizon where the sky meets the earth.
2) camels and other wild animals roam the steppe undisturbed. We saw also many predatory birds in the sky like eagles.
3) the best is travelling around in the steppe absorbing the endless scenery.
4) Visiting nomad families is very interesting because you get a sense of how these people live, in the harsh conditions of the desert.

I'm hoping it's too early for mice problems when I get there next month! Love your intro photo for this page.
