Bora Bora: Zodiac pizzas a plenty!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Bora Bora

Bora Bora, at Calle dei Satngeri in San Marco, near to the Ponte Rialto, has a great variety of unusual pizzas, including twelve based on the different signs of the Zodiac. Cool!

Favorite Dish: I had the Aquarius, because, well, I am one, but my friend Susanna had Pisces, and it was much better cos it was PACKED with seafood! Mine just kept making me go to the toilet...

Da Sandro: A small family Trattoria...

The Italians do food. They do food better than anybody in Europe. When I think of food in Italy I get so hungry!
This little place, which I admit is hard to find, is superb. It is very traditional food, so well made and tasty that you wonder why other countries cannot be this good. The quality was to die for, and the atmosphere was warm. It was inexpensive too, being off the usual tourist routes in Venice. Be wary - many places really overcharge for terrible food. But not this restaurant. I heartily recommend it - if you can find it!

Address: San Polo 1473/1411/1412, Campiello Meloni, Venezia
Directions: Cross the Rialto into San Polo, and turn left down Vecchia S. Giovanni. Keep going, until you reach C. di Mezzo, then turn right, and there it should be...

RISTORANTE PICCOLO MARTINI: One to AVOID...
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: RISTORANTE PICCOLO MARTINI

You always hear about the restaurants that are in the middle of venice and get so many tourists that they can afford to be ridiculously awful, but you also hear about Italian food being great – and I love Italian food. I had good food here the other times I came, so how bad could it be?
VERY bad – on our first night there we went into one called “Ristorante Piccolo Martini” on Frezzaria near San Marco. They tempted us in with live piano music (it was like listening to a child learning chopsticks), and I ordered gnocchi with gorgonzola, while Angela got canneloni with spinach and ricotta. I can tell you, there was not a scrap of ricotta in it, but mine was even blander. I cook with gorgonzola all the time, I love the taste, and I tell you they put none in it whatsoever. I ate a third of it hoping to find some, but it was like eating watery cream. I told them, and said I was not going to pay for it, but they protested that I had started it and that there was gorgonzola in it – they even pointed to a shred of parsley saying, “look, that green is gorgonzola.” I told them it was more likely that Gianfranco Zola was in it. Anyway, we paid for the wine and the salad, but not the rest. We just got up and did a runner!!
Now Venice is not the best place to have real Italian cuisine. There are a few nice seafood places but mostly it is tourist flavoured fare. This place, however, took the bischotti. I would advise you to really search for a good eatery, try one well away from the main tracks, and you will be fine. But avoid this place!

Favorite Dish: My favourite dish was the one I saw that had no food on it yet.

Address: Frezzaria, 30124 Ven. Don’t bother.
Directions: Fom P. San Marco, go away from the Basilica and towards La Fenice. Frezzaria is a street with many restaurants. Don't go to this one. In fact I should be giving directions of how to get AWAY from this place.
