My Home Town

by LexiB - last update: Nov 25, 2004

Angeles City IS my home town. I was born here and eventually raised here. My father being an American military member met my mother here in the late 60's (she was selling him furniture). After I was born, my family moved to the states where we stayed for about 5 years before returning to "the Islands" I must say, I really took it for granted growing up there. I really wanted to get back "stateside" as if my life depended on it. When I finally did--after graduating from high school--would you believe I got culture shock??? Yep. I returned after a year but that's when the volcano (Mt. Pinatubo) erupted and changed our lives forever. I witnessed Clark Air Base close down for good. Our family friends, who worked on base, lost their jobs. It was very sad. I returned to the states soon after. I haven't been back. Not because I don't want to. . . Just different personal reasons. I do hope to return soon. I miss the friendliness, my relatives, the fiestas, and pretty much how Filipinos just don't take things for granted. From what I remember, Angeles may not be as "cosmopolitan" as say, Manila, but that's okay. It's perfect as it is.
