Whilst I looked around a couple of the massive malls in Dubai, I wanted to buy a digital camera and found the cheapest and best place to buy it was in a Supermarket called Carrefour which I think is a French shop.

I bought a digital camera which retails for around £350-£400 back in the UK for less than £200 and I bought a 512 mb memory card to go with it for a total of just over £200.

I also bought a Pierre Cardin bag for carrying hand luggage through airports for less than a tenner.

The place was massive and far cheaper than at home and if carrying it wasn't an issue, I could have really gone to town.

Basically find the area - the Gold souk and go collect loads of cards from different shops and prepare to barter.

It's all good natured and essential, you wouldn't believe some of the discounts we negotiated - up to 60% off in certain shops.

The jewellery looked fantastic and I bought my girlfriend a beautiful diamond for a fraction of what it would've cost at home.

What to buy: Here - Diamonds and Gold. Becuase it's a bit of a bizarre market atmosphere type place, you do get a bit of hassle from salespeople trying to take you down alleyways to their shops but as long as you're not pushed for time then go with the flow and enjoy looking around. I must have visited a dozern shops and bartered in each before deciding on what I wanted.

What to pay: Well, I won't put this down in case my girlfriend reads it and throws my very expensive diamond back at me - but a lot cheaper than in the Uk for definite!
