"Birthday Weekend" Saint Ives by jmschief

My girlfriend decided to treat me to a weekend away as yet another year ticked by!

We took a drive down to Cornwall on Thursday night and stayed at a Travel Lodge in Somerset and from there got an early start down to Cornwall.

First stop was St Michael's Mount and the delightful little village of Marazion. Great for souvenirs and paintings.

From there we stopped off at the Minack Theatre - you've got to sit through the video of how this place was built - the woman was awsome!

Off then to St Ives for a couple of nights out cos it's a bit more lively - top place, would buy a house there if I could afford it! Used S.I. as a base to see Land's End, Sennens Cove etc.

Then on Sunday, off to Padstow - compared to St Ives, I found the town pretty uninspiring (bearing in mind you've got gorgeous little villages nearby like Port Isaac!).

Stayed in a bizarre little b&b right by the harbour with a cracking view and went to Rick Stein's seafood restaurant to celebrate the actual birthday.

Thoroughly recommended although a lot of people were just turning up and going to his fish and chip cafe which was a worthy substitute without the waiting time and cost!

• Pros:No airports - on your doorstep! Beautifull scenery and plenty of things to do and see
• Cons:One road in, one road out - we timed it ok but can imagine it might get snarled up
• In a nutshell:Go there, if you like it go back down every couple of years / if you don't - leave it a while and give it another chance
