Time To Travel - Where In The World Next?

by mizzzthanggg - last update: Oct 20, 2009

Thalam, Privyet & Hello

with my friend Burcak, Grand Stadium at Ephesus
Welcome to my homepage! You can find out a bit more about me & my travels here. I'm not very good at updating tips since I travel a bit more frequently than I can sort out my photos & thoughts but if you think I can help you with something, feel free to drop me an email :)
"tomb raiding" - ta prohm, siem reap, cambodia

Wanderings & Ponderings

Some of my favourite types of holidays:

*Tomb raiding!* e.g. Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm & Bayon, Siem Reap; Borobudur & Prambanam, Jogjakarta; Ajantha & Ellora, Aurangabad; Pyramids of Giza, Egypt. Because sometimes the inner stuntwoman is bursting to come out and u just wanna be Lara Croft!

*Island hopping!* e.g. Koh Lipe, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Pulau Perhentian, Ibiza & Formentara - Because sometimes u just want to do NOTHING at all, u just need a sarong, a hammock and a good book.

*Diving diving diving!* e.g. Surin/Similan, Koh Tao, Sipadan/Mabul/Kapalai, Byron Bay, etc. etc. etc. Because sometimes u just want to float around, breathe compressed air and see amazing creatures up close and in yr face mask!

*City sighting!* e.g. Verona, Firenze, Milano, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Brugge, Vienna, Melbourne, Sydney, NYC... too many to mention! Because girls will be girls and sometimes there's just nothing like a good wander through city streets and fabulous shops and pretend that u're Holly Golightly or Carrie Bradshaw ;)

*Cold places, warm faces!* e.g. skiing, snow, ice-skating, penguins, polars... Because sometimes u're just feeling too hot and need to cool down! On my permanent wishlist till it happens: An ice hotel stay and tour skating in Sweden/Norway.

Ashgabat in the distance, Turkmenistan

Based in Turkmenistan - since July 07

After a year & half of travelling back n forth almost monthly between Malaysia & Turkmenistan, I was finally transferred to our Ashgabat office and am now based here.

Definitely lots to say & tip about Turkmenistan, there's plenty going on behind the gleaming marble facades you see in the city. Did you know that Turkmenistan is one of the world's largest consumer of white Italian marble? Apparently they now have to import from elsewhere 'cos they need so much (this I found out from a Turkish guy though, so no guarantees on accuracy). Latest news is that they're soon going to add marble edgings to the roads in the capital. Swish!

I'm quite a slacker when it comes to tips, think I only have about 2 so far - General Tip - But someday my tips will come ;)

Group landing on T20, offshore Caspian Sea

Feb 09 - In The Line Of Work

One of my most memorable trips this year was a short offshore visit to our operations in the Caspian Sea. After 9 years of working in the industry I finally landed on a drilling rig and platform. Great fun, and pretty eye-opening. All the buzz and activity centered around a small hole in the ground hoping for it to spew out oil or gas in commercial quantities.

Weather was kinda foggy and daunting but we made it safely there and back. Something different than offshore visits back in Malaysia, being winter time we had to don immersion suits to fly in the helicopter to the different units and then on the units itself you had to change into coveralls and all the safety gear... but we got a kick out of it pretending we were on some space mission.
postcards on an office cabinet

POSTCARD CENTRAL

Like many other VTers, I am an avid collector of postcards too. Although I'm really not into these "cold calls" postcard sending for mere completion of collections and things like that. That aside if you would like to receive postcards from Malaysia, Turkmenistan or wherever I may travel next, send me an email and i'll send you one from somewhere!

Last but definitely not least, THANKS so much to all of you who've sent me postcards, can you spot yours on my cabinet here???
