I left my heart in Paris!

by travelnurse21 - last update: Feb 23, 2009

My favorite city

One of the views from the Eiffel Tower
I fell in love with Paris the minute I stepped off the train at Gare du Nord. I was only there for 7 days but I savored and cherished every single minute of it. I don't really know what else to say..I guess only those of you who have been to, and fallen in love with Paris (which, I know, is a lot of people), will understand. How I feel about this magical city simply can't be put into words...

Childhood Dream

The moment I stepped off the train, I took everything in and decided that it was a moment I would never forget. I breathed in really deep, looked around and realized that I was experiencing a very rare moment that few people in life are ever lucky enough to experience. I was having a childhood dream come true. I heard people around me speaking french, I saw the cobblestone streets, the patiesseries, the boulangeries, the music that they so beautifully play in the metro stations..it absolutely surpassed all my expectations. No picture could ever capture the completeness I felt when I was in Paris.

My Paris

I think experiencing Paris the way that I did is a choice. I know there are plenty of people who went to Paris and did not have a good time due to the rudeness of Parisians, etc. However, before going, I made a decision and a promise to myself. I told myself that I was not going to let anybody ruin this trip for me. No matter how rude people would be or how badly I was treated, having a good time in Paris was still solely my responsibility and nobody else's. It was a choice.

I cherished every moment. I know that they say Parisians are suspicious of people who smile all the time..but I couldn't help it. I was overwhelmed with such emotion and happiness. I always had a smile from ear to ear. I savored every delicious bite of french food, I made sure to remember how the air felt at night while walking along the lively streets of Montmartre and Pigalle, I locked into my memory the beauty of watching a sunset while walking along Avenue Champs Elysees. I took it ALL in. Until now, I look at my pictures, close my eyes and I am so happy that during those 7 magical days, I chose to live in the moment. I remember it all...

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Paris. It really is a magical city. I spent ten days there in June and had a great time cycling all around.
