Budget backpacker for life, baby!!

Land of 'Legend' and Gallo Pinto

There were two constants in Costa Rica - Bob Marley's Legend album and the local dish gallo pinto. Gallo pinto is a delicious blend of seasoned rice and black or red beans (add chicken if wanted) along with fried banana 'plaintain'. For a salt freak with a sugar streak, I was in heaven.
The other constant was that we were on the move! In four week's time, we travelled through most of the country, which is the size of West Virginia. I've got our route drawn on my Costa Rica map at home, so in time I will provide more facts. The highlights include my first immersion in San Jose, canal boat trip, Manuel Antonio, howler monkeys, Monteverde. More to come!

Update - Costa has become a real surf destination and much more 'caro' in the 10 years since my visit. I am grateful to have trekked to many points on the country's map and I love hearing new stories of the new Costa!
