Chris and i visited Alberta on our first big trip in 2000. We wentr to stay with our friends Dyane and Sheldon in Edmonton... While there they took is on what was to be one of the best parts of our whole trip...The Canadian Rockies....
The drive from Banff to Jasper is the one of the most spectacular and scenic drives in the world.....250 kilometres approximately...with every part as picturesque as the next....
We drove to Calgary and stayed there for the first night.....next morning the drive began.....
Through the canadian badlands to Drumheller, home to a huge Dinosaur Museum...very interesting....and then on to Banff.....what a beautiful town, nestled at the base of some huge mountains....we did the cable car to the Top of Sulphur Mountain...a truly breathtaking view......magnificent scenery.....
We stayed at Banff for the night.....went to a western bar and tried some dancing......gulp....and the next morning we headed north..... |
| | Lake Louise The biggest highlight of the trip was definately Lake Louise.... the most beautiful lake you could imagine.....azure blue and so serene.... with the Lake Louise Chateau nestled at the edge.....absolutely spectacular |
| | Colombia Icefields For something different...how about a trip up the mountain..... .....the colombia icefields are about halfway along the journey....stop at the visitor's centre and take a bus drive in these amazing icecoaches....on and up to the middle of the glacier...like nowhere else that i've ever seen.... it really is a must see....
All in all...the drive is something that any traveller must put on their itinerary for one of their trips...you need to do this drive....and as an added bonus...after Jasper you can head into Edmonton and spend a day or a week at the largest shopping mall in the world...the West Edmonoton Mall...... |
