Glenelg Inn from the carpark
I have to admit we were disappointed with this place. I had read reviews on the place and thought, ok, we're on holiday, let's try it. From the outside, it looked lovely. The inside appeared dark and gloomy, coming in from bright sunshine, and it seemed to be empty of anything much. We were the only customers and asked if lunch was being served. Yes, from 12.30pm. Ok, we'll have a look at the menu. There really wasn't anything exciting to choose, bog ordinary things like haddock and scampi. We were told the mussels were off as were the stovies but they were only made from corned beef anyway. There was a specials board with about four items, one of them being the no longer available mussels. Soup was another and I think lasagne.
Service at the bar was friendly but things deteriorated after that.
Favorite Dish: I chose the home made pea and ham soup which was good but so it should have been at £3.75. Nick opted for scampi, thinking it might be something out of the ordinary, given the location of the place. Well, for over £8 he got a plate of standard frozen scampi (you know, bits of monkfish) frozen chips and a tiny bit of salad. We were well and truly disappointed and when we came to pay the bill, the food and one and a half pints of cider cost an astounding £20!!! We nearly dropped dead with shock.
The service with the food was apalling. We sat outside on a table with an ashtray full of waterlogged cigarette ends. This was not removed the entire time we were there. If we wanted any condiments, we were told to get them from inside. Another party weren't given any cutlery and were told to help themselves from inside. It was quite apalling for somewhere with such a good write up and advertising luxury accommodation. If anyone can tell me different about this place, I will listen.

Sheena's Teahut
Simply an unforgettabe experience!!!! How many people can say thay have enjoyed a cup of tea in the company of a couple of stags? Well, we can.......!!!!
Once we had arrived in Corran, after our scenic trip on the motorbike, I fancied a cup of tea and the experience of Sheena's, giving us chance to just take in the beauiful scenery and tranquil surroundings. The teahut is purely that but has a lovely sheltered garden at the back. As we stood looking at the place, lo and behold, a stag sauntered along the tiny lane, between the row of houses and made his way to the back of the teahut. We had to follow.....
After ringing the bell, Sheena served us with our mug of tea (60p) and we sat in the pretty garden where a one legged sparrow joined us as along with friendly robins and chaffinches. As Sheena came out to feed the stag,we were joined by a second stag and were entertained by them scratching their antlers on anything available!
Favorite Dish: Mainly beverages and home made cakes. Also home made soup which had we not already eaten a dreadful pub lunch, we could have fancied. Nick said he also spotted such delicasies as sardines on toast. Simple fare in a beautiful location. And very reasonably priced.
Not to be missed.

The start of the process..off fishing from Glenelg
Part of our Scottish holidays involve fishing from our small boat. Usually we catch mackerel, but occassionally pollock and codling. This year while staying at Glenelg, we caught mackerel galore. Some, we gave to our fellow motorhomers but the rest we smoked on our smoker we had purchased last year.
1. Catch your mackerel.
2. Gut, clean and fillet the fish.
3.Sprinkle salt over the fillets to bring the moisture out of the fish.
4.Leave for a couple of hours then pat dry with paper towel.
5.Lay the fish on the smoker and smoke for twenty mns or so.
6. Enjoy.
Favorite Dish: Smoked mackerel is SO different from unsmoked mackerel. The flavours are completely different and people often say to us they don't like mackerel. That is until they try our smoked version. Then, they change their minds.....
