Eskdale Stores: Open All Hours...

Eskdale Valley has very few shops but the one you must visit is Eskdale Stores in Eskdale Green. In this tiny hamlet this retail outlet is home to the local off-licence, grocer, green grocer, butcher, tobbaconist, newsagent, sweetie shop, and all sorts of things you couldn't imagine. They also stock a large range of "Made in Cumbria" goodies including the renowned Waberthwaite sausages.

Upstairs is an Aladin's cave of outdoor clothes,( including childrens') and equipment. It rains plenty in Eskdale, but not to worry if you're not fully prepared. Nigel and Sherill, the owners, (who also happen to be my brother and his partner) will be able to kit you out in a jiffy.

There is free parking and the shop is most definitely open all hours!! (Within reason!)

The website below is an excellent source of info on the area, events, walks, things to do etc. Nigel is also an expert on walks in the area. Anything you need to know about a particular route, he'll be able to advise.

What to buy: Hampers of Made in Cumbria products, as well as outdoor clothing, are available to order over the internet.
