Angkor Wat, my magic spell...

by zazatann - last update: May 8, 2006

Sour Sadai (hello) Siem Reap

Monks at Bayon
If you didn’t meet a good friend for almost 3 years, would you refuse to join Angkor Wat trip with him???

Even the elephant could tell that if I didn’t go, he would cry for my stupidity.

It took 15 minutes to pack my cloth for this trip. I can say that it’s fastest for my packing time for traveling abroad trip. Cambodia, my country neighbor where I don’t feel like going abroad but just visiting someone, who I want to see, in the country. I feel like Cambodia and Thai culture are so close like cousin. That’s why I don’t feel like something is too different from Thailand.

Hi class lady like me can’t go to Cambodia by any type of transport but by bus only !!!!

We have to sit in (not good air-condition) bus on a bumping road for around 14 hours from Khao San Road, Bangkok.

When we arrived Siem Reap, I pinched my bum and my cheeks on face, they’re both numb.

I can realize that I’m really abroad when I can’t read Khmer language.
However, there’re many taxi driver can speak Thai to me.

On that night, I read guide book about Siem Reab. And this is in my dream …….

Nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River, the small provincial capital of Siem Reap Town serves as the gateway to the millennium-old temple ruins of the Angkorian-era Khmer Empire. Designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses dozens of temple ruins including Bayon, Banteay Srey and the legendary Angkor Wat whose artistic and archaeological significance and visual impact put it in a class with the Pyramids, Machu Pichu and the Taj Mahal. And though the mjor temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park are very well tourist these days, it is still possible get away from the crowds, to explore the area and discover the ancient temples of Angkor.

Siem Riap Town is where you will stay during your visit to Angkor. The area has been receiving foreign visitors to the temples for over 100 years. The town is actually a cluster of old villages, which originally developed around individual pagodas, and was later overlaid with a French colonial-era center. Take note of the colonial and Chinese style architecture in the Old French Quarter and around the Old Market. Nowadays, Siem Reap offers a wide range of hotels-including several elegant 5 star hotels, dozens of mid-range places and plenty of budget guesthouses, an amazing variety of restaurants, lots of shopping opportunities and vibrant nightlife.

Often missed are the many opportunities to experience traditional Cambodia: ‘Apsara’ dance performances, craft shops and silk farms, road tours through rice-paddy countryside, boat trips on the great Tonle Sap Lake to fishing villages and bird sanctuary and much more.

I found you on the way to Siem Reap

During the way to Siem Reap, it’s not easy and convenience but dusty and tiring.

Long way can tell us the story of traveling more than short flight by the plane. It can tell how much friends can be with us even in a smooth or rough way. Just like life, good friends will come on the tough day without asking.

I see people’s eyes in a dusty room. There’re full of smile and friendship which I don’t really find them in anywhere in this world.

Thank you to let me share on this rough way….. and I found you.
