"My Home, Mainz Germany" yetist's Profile
I moved to Mainz, Germany yesterday. I don't know anything about this place so I guess I will have to start a new home page. This is the Italian Cat that adopted me, Mimi, she wouldn't ever let me pick her up so she is staying in Italy. My neighbor said that she is coming to their house now. I don't have any pics of Mainz, but will take a couple of days and see what there is to see. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.......
We found a new hang out, The Ice Bar Milano. It was interesting, but not a place to spend a lot of time. After a while your feet get cold but the Absolut does help.
Take the elevator up to the top of the Campanile, the bell tower in Venice. If you go at 1100 or 1200 one or two of the giant bells over your head will ring. Hang out until 1800 if you can and watch all 8 of the bells ring right over your head. It is quite the experience.
I was in Istanbul on the Golden Horn, we had finished the long haul up to Aya Sophia and the Blue Mosque and after taking the tram back to the river decided to get something to eat. We saw a large group of people eating sandwiches and decided to see what was up. These guys were on their boats grilling fish, then putting the fish on bread with onions and tomatoes. Was the fish beheaded, finned and boned??? Don't ask. The sandwich was great and not a tourist in sight!!
If you ever go to Ephesus, take the horse and carriage to the top of the hill. The scenery is great along the way and it saves some on your feet. The walk down the hill is pleasant and there are a few stands to get a drink or the obligatory kilim bag, which by the way, if you get one with a strap it will hold all the other crap you buy on the walk down.
I know it is really cheesy to always ride the horse and carriage but how else are we going to keep all those folks employed? This one in Garmish was fun, the guy was nice and since there was no snow and almost no tourists he was nice enough to stop so we could get the curry sausages and gluh wein to enjoy on the way. There was not a lot to see from the carriage but that was not the point, it was just fun.
I spent a week in London. Had a ball. Stayed next to the British Museum, which is a great place to hang out on a rainy day. I have mixed emotions when looking at the "Parthenon Marbles" as they are now known, would they have been destroyed if left in situ? Anyway, there are great Cornish Pasties at Victoria Station and the Princess Louise Pub was just too much fun. Anyone that says that British food is boring has never been to China Town and had Crispy Duck or Lamb Vindaloo, much less the wonderful cheeses and meats on the Ploughman's Lunch. The Camden Town market is not to be believed, called the greatest show in London not requiring a ticket. Don't stop at the first food stall you see, there are so many you won't be able to make up your mind. Don't for get to stop by Harrod's, ride the Egyptian Escalator and see the Dodi and Di Memorial.
Go enjoy London.
La Giralda, Tower for the main Cathedral in Seville. Tomb of Columbus inside.
