This is my favorite part of Montreal. Whether wandering through the cobblestone streets or eating in one of the numerous restaurants, it's a piece of Europe in North America. In warm weather, it's got outdoor entertainment, and it's a short walk to the river too. A place to go back to, again and again.

Mont-Royal was right near my hotel on Rue Peel-see the attached pic. It's a climb, with several circular trails around the mountain, but the view is spectacular-you can see the entire city, right down to the river. There's plenty of places to picnic, walk around, or just hang out. Local people run and bike up and down Mont-Royal. I wish I was in shape to do that! By the way, it's free!

Just a stones throw from Old Montreal, along the St. Lawrence, is Vieux-Port-just keep walking til you see the river. It's the old Port, now a beautiful park where Montreal comes to play. Skate in the winter; bike, rollerblade or just walk in the summer-it seems like all of Montreal is out! Find a bite to eat, fun attractions for the family too. And you get some great views of the city.
